Have you ever traveled to a tournament, committed the time, the energy
and the resources, just have your players completely discouraged or even
embarrassed by lopsided competition? Here is a great opportunity
to travel with your team and be able to actually compete in the ultimate
"B" level competitive soccer tournament. This
extremely popular event draws club teams from all across the tri-state
area seeking this "B" level of competition. This year
will be no exception.
This tournament is designed specifically for club and travel recreational teams. Acceptance is restricted to those teams playing at a "B" level within their individual leagues. A proof of "B" status will be required with each team application form (see below for requirements). The Challenge Cup "B" Division also maintains a NO guest player policy on all team rosters. This tournament, by definition, is to promote the spirit and sportsmanship of club play. Champions of the Challenge Cup "B" Division Tournament cannot defend their titles. They are considered graduates of the "B" level and are expected to compete in the future at a higher level. Each team is guaranteed 4 preliminary matches with the opportunity to advance to playoff and final rounds. A maximum of 6 games will be played. Bracketing is determined by the number of teams that apply at each age group. Scheduling is made 2 weeks prior to the event and done by committee blind draw. However, teams will be separated in preliminary matches (when possible) by state and league play. Tournament scoring is based on a points system: 2 points are awarded for a win and 1 point is awarded for a tie. Team and individual awards are given to all those making the playoffs. Proof of "B" Status Definition: A team requesting acceptance must be currently competing in their proper age group and ranked in the middle or near the bottom half of their own league play. League strength and overall size combined with team gender and age will also be considered in determining "B" status. The Tournament Committee will review each application and consider all factors for establishing team status. The general rule is as follows: Divide the entire age group of your league play in 1/2, the top half being the "A" flight and the bottom half being the "B" flight. Example: League ABC - U-12 boys has 6 flights containing 10 teams each (flight 1,2,3,4,5,6) and they are ranked by past performance. The tournament will accept all the teams in 4,5,6 and consider the weakest teams in flight 3. For further information, please contact the tournament office. A letter from the coach or a copy of the league standings must accompany the application. The tournament is open to Boys and Girls teams ages U-9, U-10, U-11, U-12, U-13, U14. U-9: born on or after August 1st - 1992 U-10: born on or after August 1st - 1991 U-11: born on or after August 1st - 1990 U-12: born on or after August 1st - 1989 U-13: born on or after August 1st - 1988 U-14: born on or after August 1st - 1987 |
